Interesting van, often parked a couple of blocks down from where I live:
I wonder about the reference to the bees – perhaps something to do with this? On my way to Time Warner Center I noticed a newspaper article about NASA stuck to a hoarding. Closer inspection revealed more newspaper clippings, covered with very precise annotations, apparently referencing some kind of UFO conspiracy. They looked cool against the red wall. Take care of your spiritual development, your A/C and refrigeration needs from just one source. (Take a close look at the door of the van.) So it was late on a Sunday evening, working at the ITP lab as usual. It was the last night of the New York Blipfestival (a four day festival of video-game inspired music & video), which I was likely to miss. At this point, Rui said something like “Why the **** are we in New […] Nik, my charming & jetsetting girlfriend, has arrived in New York! It’s so nice to see her here, after two months apart. Not much of a shock for her: my furniture, appliances, etc. are all the same ones I had in Tokyo, so it was easy for her to settle in. Even more important, I […] I went to see this show with a bunch of other ITP students. Matmos is a very interesting duo (with occasional collaborators) that works with found sound and samples, using it produce music with a pointed political sentiment. So Percussion started out as an avantgarde percussion quartet, mostly playing the works of other composers, but […] Went to see another Darmstadt event at the Spiegeltent. The following […] A battle is being fought on the streets of New York, not far from where I live and study. Two family-owned Indian restaurants, side-by-side in the same building, strive to out-do each other in the matter of illumination. The interiors are equally overwhelming. More info here.
Went to see a Unity Gain performance at the Spiegeltent, the elaborate temporary structure now living at the South Street Seaport. Unity Gain is a sort of electronic jam session of audio & video artists, mostly using computers. Great layout of the space – big vertical screen on top of a round table, all the […] |

Visit to the Wired Nextfest
I went to see the Wired Nextfest in New York, a tradeshow/exhibition focused around technology and the future.
Frankly, I found it a bit disturbing. The vision of the future presented is very much technology for its own sake, dominated by large corporations, and with a strong militaristic streak. There is no real attempt to […]
