I went to see Matthew Herbert at Irving Plaza, great show. Opening act was Skye, lead singer for Morcheeba. Herbert is an interesting sampler-based performer, always very original. His stage […] Went to the Warper party at the Delancey bar. Nice scene, with VJs, laptop musicians and an interactive installation, the Octa-masher by Moldover. It reminded me of some events at Super-Deluxe in Tokyo, lots of experimentation and interaction. The VJs had all their gear set up in the upstairs bar – two computers, video mixer, […] I travelled to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the weekend, to visit family and see my uncle Rafael’s (Chafo) exhibition. It is his first showing after 45 years, after a self-imposed exile. Apparently the exhibition has been a huge success, with several works sold.
[…] My last big outdoor party in Japan: Californication, organized by Brainbusters. The venue was amazing: a mountaintop shrine in Chichibu, Saitama. Experienced some magic moments, admiring the illuminated shrine, the teahouse lit by candles, fascinating artwork and a stunning sunrise over the mountains. Since my friend Tomo is also heading off to CCA in San Francisco, we’ve decided to hold a joint sayonara party at SuperDeluxe in Nishi-Azabu. I went to see the Spring Dance of the Shimbashi geisha, the Azuma Odori 2006. Tokyo still has a number of geisha neighborhoods, though not as well known as those of Kyoto. On May 12th, 2006 Victor and I organized a party in Tokyo on the theme of the eclipse. More than 300+ people turned up to enjoy a multi-screen video presentation, excellent music, and each other’s company.
