Panoramas of Brazil

Just returned from Brazil, here are a couple of nice panoramic shots from Rio. The first is the famous Rocinha favela, the second is an overview of the Rio beaches taken from the Corcovado mountain. Click on the images to see the (huge) full resolution versions.

Diving in Sipadan

Just got back from Sipadan in Malaysia. Amazing dive site – loads of sharks, sea turtles, barracudas and every variety of colorful reef fish. Sipadan Water Village is a very well-organized scuba resort. As soon as they get their quota allocation from the government (only 120 divers at any time on Sipadan), they plan out the following day’s boat dives, ensuring that you get a lot of time in the water. Nik & I dived at Sipadan 6 times in 3 days, and 3 more dives at other locations. Click here for more pictures.

Whistler Snowboarding

Went to Whistler, Canada for snowboarding over Spring Break. Big achievement for me was learning to make linked turns – the trick is to look where you are going, and let your body follow your line of sight. Also, consciously trying to keep weight on forward foot is key. When it all comes together, and you let go of your fear, it is magic.

Here is Whistler mountain in the morning:

Eadweard Muybridge at Lucasfilm

I visited the new Lucasfilm campus at the Letterman Digital Arts Center, in the Presidio (San Francisco). Very sedate, conservative environment, with no obvious signs of anything related to cinema. However, there is one statue on the grounds, of Eadweard Muybridge. Here’s a picture of Amy, Nik & myself next to it:

Everything seemed very natural. However, it is all very, very artificial, as shown by the shut-off button for the creek that runs through the site.
